We operate a Charities Committee within the company which has the aim of helping as many people as we can within our local area. We support local schools, charities, scouts, guides, football clubs etc and not individuals.
A recent support has included a donation to Fairbridge in Kent, a charity based in The Historic Dockyard in Chatham. Fairbridge work with disaffected young people between the ages of 13 and 25 and aim to help them build confidence and motivation that they need to change their lives.
Maidstone Christian Care also received a donation to aid their work with the homeless and substance dependant by helping them to rebuild their lives.
A further donation was given to The Fifth Trust for their work with adults with learning difficulties.
We supported our own Aylesford Newsprint ladies in the Race for Life in support of Cancer Research and the Committee themselves enrolled in the Charity Walk in aid of the Demelza Hospice at Leeds Castle which hopefully will be ongoing and will possibly involve other ANL staff along with the Committee.
Last, but not least, the vast majority of our support has been with local schools whom we have visited at various times. A recently supported school, Deal Parochial Primary, were given funds for a nature garden and given a demonstration of paper making (involving one of our process engineers) for their world week which highlighted subjects such as recycling (caring for our environment). About 30 children were able to 'have-a-go' at paper making and wanted to buy their own kits for home! We have supported many more schools by supplying raffle prizes for their fêtes and bazaars.
